Gardening the Criminals Away

Crime Prevention ProductIf you were a good enough gardener, then you wouldn’t have to worry about crime invading your home… or so this ad would have you believe. Walking by a home improvement store I noticed an interesting display making claims about crime prevention, but looking like gardening products. The top line reads “Sound-based (crunch crunch) crime prevention”. They are selling white, pumice-weight, rough gravel on the concept that you’ll be able to hear any criminals walking across it. There was a tray of it in front of the display. Note the extra sign at the bottom: “Please try it out!”

In Peru they cement broken glass bottles onto the tops of the perimeter walls. And my mom told me a story about thistles when she saw that I took a picture of a thistle in her yard. She said that when a moat in Scotland had dried up, the thistles still managed to protect the castle. The Danes had decided to approach barefoot to be stealthy and, encountering the thistles, gave themselves away. All that to say, I like this advertisement and the thief looks very fashionable with his sack.

Houston must be a lot like Peru. They would push whole bottles into the wet cement and after the cement dried they would crack the top half off the bottles. Those Danes are pretty sharp, taking their shoes off to keep quiet. I’m with Josh… that was funny.
