Suffering from Skipping Sumo

Recently I haven’t been watching any sumo wrestling. I missed out on some hot action the other day. Apparently a woman pushed her way onto the raised platform where the fights take place. Fortunately she was not able to get into the ring, as women are not allowed there, and who knows what kind of trouble that would have caused: probably they would have to stop the event to perform all the ring purification rituals again.

Personally, I think it is silly that women can’t go on the platform, but this woman was not executing some protest. She just wanted to deliver a message that some Japanese star is possessed by evil spirits. Japanese people immediately labeled her as crazy.

At the party the other night this launched a discussion about how, in America, people who run out on ballfields get arrested. Both the Canadians and the Japanese were surprised by this.

I assume there isn’t any ear biting there either, huh?

If blood is spilled in the ring, they must stop the event to purify the ring; hence, ear biting is right out.
