Wednesday was not so bad, but Tuesday morning my normal commute was disrupted. Occasionally some government office pays lackeys to sit at street corners with counting mechanisms and click away. At busy intersections they usually sit in pairs to count the flow of cars.

Normally I don’t pay much attention to these workers, but it is causing a problem. One intersection I pass through tends to be a little backed up on normal days. Tuesday it was horrendously troubled. The only factor that had changed was that two guys with counters were sitting in lawn chairs at the intersection. I am convinced that their presence at our relatively remote location was the primary cause of traffic delay.

Now I am wondering if the engineers take into account the distraction factor. I am also wondering if the way to justify “improvement” projects is to send “surveyors” (distractors) to intersections…
