OK! Time for a photo frenzy. I was doing fairly well at getting photos into posts, but when my old machine’s hard drive got full and it was overheating too fast to run the external drives, I fell out of the practice. Now I’m cookin’ with gas. My Core Duo provides me with no excuses; and hence, you will be treated to a rash of photos in the coming days.
Since I became the number one photographer of Japanese manhole covers on Flickr, I was approached by someone publishing a book about the subject. It looks like I will be in print, but first need to reshoot a number of covers at higher resolution. To commemorate this event, here is a manhole cover with no apparent purpose.
I found this one near the Kyoto Zoo, stuck under the old Incline Railway that connected the Lake Biwa water supply to Kyoto. I wonder if they use this as a hazing for new workers. “Hey Jiro, we need you to go out and investigate a problem under lid number 2583. And it’s a rush job so don’t take too much time on it.”

Hey, congratualtions! That’s a funny one you posted today. I could see it b eing used for just the purpose you imagine.
